Back-From-Purgatory's News

Posted by Back-From-Purgatory - June 5th, 2011

So, it didn't take long since my last newspost announcing that I would be running a contest once I reached 100 fans here on newgrounds for me to get to the 100 mark... so I haven't managed to write out the full contest just yet, although I'm thinking of going with something a little more simple (and random) than the one I ran at 50 fans.

However, within the next day or two, I should have the contest posted up in a newspost. I have also come to a conclusion on what the prizes will be, this time it will be a bit more open (As opposed to a predetermined game like last time).

Here are the details/rules for the upcoming contest (This is not the contest itself, just a few guidelines to get you ready!):

Rules:
-Only those that have me favorited will be eligible to win... this is a fan appreciation thing after all.
-Those who wish to enter must have a Steam account (Or be willing to make one, it's free!), as the prizes will be through Steam.

... And that's all for rules, complicated, I know!

How the Winner will be chosen:
-Instead of running a trivia type contest this time around, I will be randomly picking a name out of a hat from those that have entered (Details on how to enter will be in the contest newspost, not here!)

Prizes:
-1 copy of the recently released game Frozen Synapse (A value of $25).
-1 game of your choice $20 or under, bringing the total worth of the prize to around $45.

So there you have it, the details on how to enter will follow shortly (Day or two max).
Until then, thank you for your interest in my work!

Just a reminder, since last time was pretty sudden, but when I reach 100 fans (Read: Favorites), I will be running another contest for those that have favorited me, and will be giving away something free to the winner! I do have a couple things in mind for this prize, however, it's subject to change, so I won't disclose any information on what it is until I'm sure that's what I'll be using.

In any case, I am sitting at a nice 91 fans right now, which is amazing considering I was at 50 not 2-3 weeks ago... The amount of interest in my stuff lately has been overwhelming, even if most of it was generated by my spot on the Weekly Tops last week... Or my 2 songs on the "Best Tracks Ever" list this week... Either way, I really appreciate all the comments/reviews/support!

But yeah... I'm at 91 currently... at 100 I'll be putting up another newspost to detail the upcoming contest and the prize(s) it will dish out. I can't guarantee I'll be extremely punctual with the contest itself however, as I did not expect to reach 100 so fast (Again, thanks! I'm not complaining!)... But it will be up soon after I post about reaching the 100 mark.

Until then, thanks for all the support!

Well, then I have something for you... at least for the more metal head types out there... I was sifting through my vocaloid collection earlier today, and I found a certain song... This song sparked a ridiculous journey across the internet trying to find the original author, then trying to find what else he's done, then trying to find where it's available... To say the least, I spent the better majority of my night finding this stuff... and now I'm gonna be nice and share it with you.

First off, here's the song that sparked my interest:

I heard this song for the first time while I was playing Beat Hazard, an indie game available on steam, basically a top down shooter where the enemies movements and patterns, along with your weapon strength are heavily influenced by the intensity of the music... It's a fun game, you should check it out.
Anyways, I was playing survival mode, and this song showed up about 20 min in, and it blew me away... Literally... I died shortly after the song started. So I looked it up in my itunes playlist and gave it a full listen... freakin' amazing is all I can say.

And for those that aren't fans of vocaloids... no worries, this guy has an album (Or two?) out featuring various human singers as well.

Example:

For those that like what you're seeing, I shall now reveal the man behind all this music:
Yuyoyuppe
This isn't a link to his official page (Assuming he has one, if he does, I couldn't find it), but it does give a list of most of the songs he has done for those that want more. And if you care to, you can search him on google if you really want to find more about him.

Enjoy! I know I had multiple eargasms when I heard this stuff, hope you do too!

In light of a few reviews I've been getting lately, I would like to clarify something people seem to be misunderstanding.

The guitars in my songs... Are real guitars, not VSTs or any kind of software instruments. I'm not sure why people seem to think they're not real... but just to drive the fact home, I'm going to include a picture of all my guitar gear. The only song I have ever done where a guitar wasn't real was my 28 days later cover, because I was too lazy to hook everything up after I got home from a jam...

Every other song on my page that has guitar in it, is done with real guitars. Also note, I am not including everything I use, just the gear I use frequently. And it may be hard to tell in the picture, but the Ibanez has a glitter blue finish, depending on how well the pic uploads, it may look black due to lack of light.

Guitars (From left to right): Ovation Celebrity (Electric acoustic, 6 string), Peavy Raptor (Electric, 6 string), Ibanez RG1527 Prestige (Electric, 7 string), Fender Precision Bass (Electric, 4 string)

Amp: Fender Frontman 25R

Pedals (Left to right): Digitech JamMan Stereo Loopstation, Line 6 POD X3 Live

Keyboards (Left to right): Alesis Micron synth, M-Audio Keystation 88es (88 key, half of the keyboard is cut out of the pic)

I must say, I never imagined one of my songs would make the weekly tops list... All I can say is, wow... awesome... Thanks.

This little event has only added more weight to the topic of my previous newspost... In short... I am just throttled that so many people seem to like my music lately, just speechless. And it's that support that's been helping me through rough times lately and been keeping me writing my music.

Here's a link to the song that somehow made the Weekly Tops for those that are curious:

And here's hoping that I'll have another song up there someday! And one day... maybe even the front page under featured music!

Recently, I have been incredibly moved by some of the reviews you guys have been leaving, not to say that I haven't gotten touching reviews in the past... but lately, I've been feeling a little more emotional about all the positive feedback.
I'm usually on the boat of people that hate those that leave reviews that offer little to no real constructive criticism beyond the typical, "I love it! This is great!"... But I guess after a while, even if it's not incredibly helpful from a production point of view, it builds up into real appreciation just from the thought that people like it enough to simply say they love it.

Some of the reviews I've been getting lately have almost brought me to tears... In a good way of course. And I just wanted to say, I love you all, and you've no idea how much it means to me that you enjoy the extremely schizoid music I have a habit of putting out.

If I were rich, I would buy each and every one of you a present and personally deliver it. Really, there aren't any words for me to describe how good it makes me feel to see some of these reviews, so all I can really say is thank you.

And for those that haven't checked it out yet... I have uploaded version 3 of my song -A Taste Of...-. Be sure to check it out if you get a chance... The reaction I've had to this so far has been overwhelming, and I hope to hear from more people, love it or hate it.

I have finally put more work into my song "The Taste Of...", and I think it's coming along nicely. This is probably my most ambitious orchestral metal project I've ever done, and it's still far from complete... but I enjoy getting feedback along the way, so take a listen and let me know what you think!

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen /421684

Changes made:
-Added the next section of the song (Not the final section!)
-Beefed up the kick drum a bit to give it a little more presence in the song
-Turned the drums overall down a hair to compensate for the kick being louder
-Tweaked the volume of the staccato strings
-Upped the volume of the orchestra to bring it closer to the front of the track

Again, still a work in progress, there is more to come!

If everyone could stop taking everything I say and somehow turning it into some kind of malicious slur against everyone that's reading it, that would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm getting rather sick of apologizing to people because they take something light hearted and somehow twist it into an insult directed at their intelligence.

Congratulations to Kirbyfemur!

He was the first person to correctly answer all of the questions from my previous newspost, and therefore has won the free copy of DiRT 2!

Thanks for being a fan! And thanks for taking the time to participate!

As an added note, I am planning on doing this form of thing again when I hit 100 fans... So keep your eyes open, or you may miss it!

NOTE:
This contest is over, if you want to see the answers, I have put them in an authors response in the comments section of this newspost. If you want to see who won, check out the newspost directly after this one!
- ! - - - - - - - - - - ! - - - - - - - - - - ! -

It's time, I've hit 50 fans on Newgrounds, so it's time to get this contest started, the winner will be getting a free copy of DiRT 2 via Steam (Meaning you must have an active Steam account to participate).

How this is going to work, is I'm going to give you a set of questions to be answered, mostly about my music of varying degrees of difficulty. The idea is that those who have been following me should have an easier time answering these questions, giving them the edge over someone who just favorited me just to participate because they want a free game.

The first one to answer every question correctly via PM will be given the free copy of DiRT 2. I will be including a couple trick questions as well to help distinguish the real fans from the "I just want the game" people.

So, let's get this party started! Keep in mind, all questions are related to my music. And all the answers are somewhere on my profile.

Question #1:
Which was the first song of mine that was ever used in a Flash Submission?

Question #2:
What is my handle on Twitter?

Question #3:
How many of my youtube videos make use of my own music (Including covers)?

Question #4:
Which of my songs was the first to be sold for use in a Flash Submission?

Question #5:
What Programs (Hint: there are 2) do I use to record/produce my music?

Question #6:
What VST do I use to create the majority of the instruments in my electronic tracks?

Question #7:
Which of my songs was written specifically to suit the mood of a picture?

Question #8:
How big (I.E. How many keys) is the MIDI Keyboard I recently purchased?

Question #9:
There is only one song on my profile that uses a solo flute/clarinet, which one is it?

Question #10 (Tricky one, good luck!):
Which of my uploads has a "watermark" on it to prevent use in a commercial setting?

And that's it, good luck, have fun, the first to PM me all the correct answers IN A SINGLE PM will be receiving a free copy of DiRT 2!
