Nothing's more true than this answer.. people prefer keep living their life, and don't care about the really answer, 'cause if someone, someday, would find The Meaning of Life, what will we do of all we were thinking about ? "Why should I work everyday now I know the meaning of my life.. I don't have to do it.." What people fear, is to know, and that's the weakness of Human, that's 'cause Human fear to implicate himself in something new and unpredictable that he won't help a stranger, that he will keep walking in front of him. "Someone will do it for me, anyway I can't help this stranger, he don't need me" And sometimes, someone risk himself and help someone he doesn't know, and that's 'cause Human is an imperfections, and this imperfection make exceptions.. It's not enough to make me having faith in the mankind.

You already answered your own question. The meaning of life is different in all strands, but on a society stand-point it is the goals you accomplish and the differences you do make.
As for helping out total strangers, I believe it's something we should be doing more often.
