What the hell is going on?

Posted by Back-From-Purgatory - April 7th, 2012

So... I've been noticing recently that my stuff has been getting a lot more attention lately... Where did this sudden, seemingly random, boom of interest in my music come from?

Someone even said I was "popular" in chat a couple days back, to which I thought, "Me? Popular? Not possible."

Have I just been ignorant... clueless... about some increase in interest in my stuff? Or... what?

Someone explain, before I hurt myself trying to think over how this happened.

It takes time. After random browsing, people happen upon your work and, if they like it, they will check out the author's page for more information, perhaps even a trip into their mind with what they tend to blog about. To be more specific, once they find out how you've collaborated with other well-known talents, they begin to see some badge of quality. This could be one reason behind your recent surge of interest, while the other is purely a result of using said blog to promote yourself.

Not to mention, you've been around for a while and you've gotten better. I remember when I checked out BHT from the bottom rung of your catalog. That was several years ago--at least four or maybe five--and back then, it was okay. These days, new material is stunning.

The prudent thing is not to think too much about it. You weren't gunning for wide appeal, just to be a skilled musician. Take it easy, because it gets easier over time. You're always going to have a few people who know who you are and what you do, so take a deep breath and think of something soothing... like Shadman's latest submission to the portal. Every page of cartoon artwork he churns out looks like a Slayer music video.

Well, when you put it like that, it makes me feel stupid for not noticing... Cause honestly, I still don't think my stuff is all that great. "You are your own worst critic" I guess.

Well with greater output there's increased odds of recognition, allso it looks like you've been at it for quite some time and i for one like to think that progress is inevitable :3

Instead of worrying about the how or why perhaps try to take it as a sign your time and effort have actually paid off in a good way. (or whatever other rationale you might find comforting ^_- )

Oh, I'm not worried about why, it just seems like it happened out of nowhere, so it was kind of a shock to look over a few of my more recent submissions and see them well over 10 reviews or 1.5k listens already.

Hell, Nightmare Lollipop wasn't anything more than an hour sit down and goofing around on my keyboard... and somehow it's getting a ton of attention in comparison to a lot of my other stuff.

I've come to a conclusion, it seems every time I'm not serious about a project, it ends up being popular... So I'm gonna start not taking anything seriously and just goof off... Seems to be working for me so far.

You're popular because your talented.

And yet I still feel like I'm behind where I want to be, but thanks nonetheless.

i was just bored

Funny, I was too, that's why I was looking over my submissions.

i just am here cuase you have an animie pic

Fascinating!

people think your awesome... don you think thats awesome? :3

I'm still in shock that people think so, but yes, I do think that's awesome.

I have not noticed you much, perhaps something you made was front paged recently, or Newgrounds new search engine and suggested engine is working wonders and pointing people in the RIGHT direction for once.
Or maybe you made better music perhaps? I only know you as a forum reg. nothing more. To think you made audio surprises me.

It is pretty surprising that an audio moderator would make audio.

BTW yeah, anime pics tend to have a certain allure to them. Hard to describe but if anything it's a sign of hope for lonely men. A bit like "Hey there are girls with MY interests!" etc. Probably tunes into something subconsciously perhaps.

There really isn't any kind of shady motive behind me using anime pics... I use them because I like anime. It keeps me sane...

...more or less.

...dude down below... I kinda agree^^... I saw yadere girl pic and metal music... instant fav on the author :3

Awww... so everyone only likes me cause I enjoy yandere pics and metal? This new information makes me sad.

*Insert sad face here*

Mine probably count as Regular Anime Profile Pics, as I don't really use a lot of cutesy pics... but I'm pretty sure I don't have 983874892 Mail.

In actuality, I only have approximately 650 PMs.

What am I doing wrong?

...not just that... we like your for your music... :3
you seem a bit melancholic about this? >.>

I'm melancholic about everything. Can't help it, it's just who I am.

... Its ok... its just probably the winter cold got ya down
... well. it feels that way for me >.>

Psychiatrist suggested the same thing when I was in therapy last year... something about seasonal depression and junk... But it's the same all year round, honestly... I'm just naturally pessimistic.

On the upside... It keeps me modest, I have a hard time taking pride in anything, so it's practically impossible for me to ever reach "elitism".

It may have something to do between it being Easter season and your username....-

That's an interesting theory...

The way i found you was when you said you were bringing out an album. So i presumed you were good. And you were.

Well, I'm glad you think so.

Don't be surprised, you've earned the attention and title of popular ... plus, was it wrong for me to introduce some of your songs to a few dozen people? I sure hope not ...

There would be something seriously wrong with me if I didn't want people to share my music with their friends.... In other words... No... In fact, thank you for sharing!

I happened to come across your stuff from typing in some random anime ost and I liked your remix of it. Then I listened to more stuff and gave 5* ratings to ones I liked, hope you keep making more great tracks.

I've always had mixed feelings in the way my covers and such have been received... For the longest time, the only songs on my profile that got any views at all, were covers, and it was like my original stuff didn't even exist.

Although I'm glad you're helping prove that train of thought wrong.

If you save someone's life, and don't find the experience worthwhile, but receive praise from the surrounding populace, what you did was officially awesome.

Try to see your life from the view of others and you'll see how cool you are.
You may just be out of the loop...

That's what people keep telling me, I dunno, guess it just hasn't sunk in yet.
