Touchy Touchy

Posted by Back-From-Purgatory - April 16th, 2012

As the title of this newspost suggests, I have a touchy topic in mind, that could very well turn people away.

What is it you ask?
Donations.

Yep, I'm touching on the topic of donations. Now before everyone gets the wrong idea, I'm not asking for anything, all I'm doing is providing the option.

In reality, there are 2 reasons I have opened up a donation box:
1: As a means for people to essentially "pre-order" the album I'm working on.
2: To help motivate me.

Number 1 is pretty straight forward and obvious, you donate, you get a copy of my album (Which was planned to be a pay what you think it's worth album anyways, so it all works out).
Number 2 is a bit trickier... Long story short, as implied by my last newspost, I have a hard time believing anyone enjoys my stuff... Why? I don't know, and I won't get into it.
But if people are donating, I have more of a reason to write, and write more often, which in the end should mean more quality stuff, sooner, instead of how I'll go into 2 month hiatus's from creating anything because I just don't feel there's any point.

Anyways, enough explaining... everything considered, I figured if nothing else, it was worth a shot at least once, if it flops, then whatever, I'll let it die until the album is released and open 'er back up again for purchases (If I don't decide to go through another source instead of doing things completely independent).

So, the moment of truth, the donation link, do with it what you will:
Donation Box

Points for no "Gimme money cause my life is hard" sob story?

PS:
If you do for whatever reason decide to donate, please let me know, so that I can add you to the list of people to receive a copy of my album whenever I finally finish it. And please note, only donations above $1 will get you a copy of the album... Admit it, you'd feel pretty insulted too if you someone paid $0.01 for your efforts.

The symbolic $ is enough og a payment?

*thinks of a song by aloe blacc*

The only problem I have now is that I don't own a PayPal account. I blame YOU AND ONLY YOU for signing me on for their services... now where the hell did I put my MasterCard???
*buggers of to read legal texts on the paypal website*

Unfortunately, symbolic $ isn't an acceptable currency for musical hardware/software, believe me, I wish it was.

And I feel bad for even putting the option out there, so you don't need to feel obligated to make a paypal account on my behalf... Although at the same time, I'm flattered that you're entertaining the thought at all.

Props for no sad story!
For me, I support for this reason:
No one is ever done really growing as a musician.
I already like your stuff. It's going to be scary when you grow even more.
And it takes some motivation to get you there.
Donating now.

I have been planning to do the same for my VGCD, whose release has been delayed.
Maybe I'll soon have your support as well =]

Gonna have any hard copies/artwork available?

First off, thank you so much, you have no idea how happy it makes me to know someone enjoys my stuff enough to donate.

As for hard copies and artwork... Yes, there will be artwork, although I was planning on going primarily digital for the album itself, I was entertaining the thought of doing hard copies for people that donate extra (How much extra? I'm not sure yet)... Because a hard copy would end up costing me for both materials and shipping, so it's only fair that if someone were to donate beyond a certain point that I use that to send them a hard copy of the album.

I was also entertaining the thought of bonus tracks for donations beyond a certain point as well... But this is also nothing set in stone yet... Although when I do decide what I plan on doing, it will be retroactive. Meaning people won't be cut out because they donated before I made a decision, if someone were to donate a ridiculous amount (In comparison to a regular album of course), of course they would get the full bundle, hard copy, bonuses and all.
